Curriculum

THE CURRICULUM OFFERED TO OUR STUDENTS

The curriculum at Dyke House Sports and Technology College is an extended curriculum, which is personalised to meet the needs of all learners. Flexibility in the curriculum allows for adaptations to be made that are responsive to the needs of both individuals and groups of students as they progress through our College.

Our aims are that:

- All students have access to a broad, balanced and coherent curriculum that supports learning.

- A strong core curriculum ensures that basic skills are embedded so that students are able to access the wider curriculum.

- An extended curriculum ensures all students have access to catch-up, extension and enrichment.

- The curriculum is personalised and inclusive and meets the needs of individual students at every Key Stage.

- Sport and D&T, our specialisms, and are used to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.

Also, in years 7 & 8 we have some students following a Project Based Learning route. Project Based Learning is enquiry-based, cross-curricular learning. Projects are motivated by a "Driving Question" which must be at the heart of all learning. Over the past two years we have successfully supported the literacy needs of our pupils through this approach. Our project question for this year is: "What do people really need?"
